February 25th 1941 – February strike in Amsterdam. Appalled by the German occupiers’ persecution of Dutch Jews, first the city’s tram drivers went on strike, followed by other trade union and ultimately the general populace. The strike was led by the outlawed Communist Party. It lasted only three days and after it was quelled the leaders were executed or sent to concentration camps. The strike was the only mass protest in Europe by non-Jews over Germany’s treatment of Jews.
I especially enjoyed this DIH piece. Feel as you do about Ali. And white supremacy. Good one Gary.
